Do you know how black hills gold jewelry is actually made? The entire process ins too long and the first thing that has to be done is to find a pan or dig gold ore. After this, the ore is separated from other impurities and is melted & poured into bars. At this point, the gold we get is 24k, which is not used to make jewelry because it is too soft to hold a good shape. If you have to make a gold jewelry, then it is essential to mix some other metals into gold and harden it. The entire process of mixing is called smelting.
After the gold is alloyed with other metal, it is tested for carat weight. The 10 carat gold is used in making rings, earrings, necklaces and other jewelry that needs to be harder. 12Carat gold is used in decoration work and generally have a red, pink or green color. 14 carat gold is used to make engagement and wedding rings.
The first step of jewelry making is to design a piece of jewelry to be made. The work is done by jewelry designers who first make a wax design of the entire piece so that it can be re-sculpted and reshaped to make the copy of the image. After this, a group of people pick the pieces, which they think are good to meet the design requirements and preferences of consumers.
After this, several pieces of wax called frame are attached to a wax stem. The stem is coated with a heat resistant material and a mold is formed. When the mold gets harder, it is submitted to high heat in order to melt out all the frame. When the entire wax is taken out, the mold is filled with 10 carat gold to make jewelry. If a 12 carat or 14 carat piece is to be made, than the particular gold is pured into the mold. When the frame gets cool, the mold material is removed and the pieces are cut and cleaned from all edges.
After this, the engravers to the engraving of the piece and do the finishing of the entire jewelry. The piece is then sent to the wriggler, who does small engravings on it. The process of wriggling provides more luster to the jewelry and reflects light from small marks.
The piece is later polished and inspect to ensure proper quality and durability. If it does not meet the laid standards, it is again sent to the original owner who destroys it and repeats the process again.
