Symptoms- Cats who suffer from this severe condition called feline rhinotracheitis show common symptoms of an upper respiratory infection. Some of the common symptoms are:
- Sneezing :if the sneezing is done at a regular level, then the cats needs immediate attention.
- Coughing :any kind of coughing needs immediate attention. A proper care is a must in this case. The germs are highly infectious.
- Discharge from the nose.
- Other secondary symptoms include loss of appetite, corneal ulcers, and a fever.
Treatmenttake him to the veterinarian so that the cat can get apt antibiotics on time. Don't delay as the infection can spread in a major way to other cats as well. The disease usually goes away on its own within ten days, if proper antibiotics are given on time. Otherwise the situation may even get worse also. You can even give nasal drops to your cat in order to decrease the amount of discharge from the nose. Also make sure that the cat is getting and eating enough food and fluids. He may also need a feeding tube if a loss of appetite is seen in the case.
The room in which the cat is living should be warm and have plenty of ventilation. As the situation is related to respiration, you should also try to have a humidifier in the room. Talk him to a walk in the evening but at the same time ensure that he is kept away from other pets.
