Peer pressure is a kind of emotion, or one can say a feeling, that can generate in humans of all age groups. It can be due to the fact that just because your friends or peers are doing something, you need to do perform more than that! As mentioned, the situation can happen at any age, however, 11 to 15 year olds are often more susceptible. It is normal for the children, specially who enter in their teenage to want to fit in with others their age and to perform all those things that there folks are doing. If you will perform in the same way, then it will often help you to feel that you belong to a group and are accepted. Otherwise you tend to feel out of the group. This feelings develops a kind of peer pressure in the teenagers!
Peer pressure is geared up with all kinds of tensions. It can also take a form of diverse things, such as a teen can face a peer pressure of wearing the same clothes, color your hair in the same way as your friends have done , have ears pierced and listen to the same music or no matter what.
Most of these peer pressure are harmless. But if they are practiced in an extreme position, then they might prove harmful also. Cases when peer pressure takes the form of pressure to drink alcohol, smoke or take drugs, bunk off school or start having sex is extremely harmful. The most common peer pressure that is seen in children, may be of all age groups, is the peer pressure of studies and perform better then your classmates.
Peer pressure is not always doing what your classmates or buddies at school do. Sometimes this kind of pressure is also related to wanting to do things that others your age do. Sometimes a child may find it extremely difficult to stand up to his fellow mates if he is not interested in doing so. In that case, a real friendship is proved. If your friends are your real buddies, then they will accept you as you are! They will also respect you for your feelings. They will never allow you to do something that is not apt for you. But if you really get indulged in changes and start doing things, then you may be affected by peer pressure. In such case, parents should understand, and let their child know that they don't expect him to be a genius. They love him, just the way he is!
