The term "alternative medicine" is not unknown now-a-days. Yes the term is getting popular day by day. Okay now let us discuss the exact meaning of this term. The terms means the use of certain methods and practices for treatment other than conventional methods of treatments like going for those scary surgeries or may be those pathetic medicines!
Let me name a few alternative medicines for you. First of all, as fas as my personal experience, yoga to me is an alternative medicine. It changed my life. Meditation is a part of yoga. These two alternative methods are immensely effective!
Chinese medicine and the Ayurveda medical that are practiced in India are considered as alternative medicine as far as the western countries and lifestyles are concerned. But we all know that these alternatives are considered as conventional in those places where they originated from. That means in India, yoga is just a form of medicine, but in western countries, it is an alternative medicine! Got it?
Thus, it is the truth that apart from conventional medicines, alternative therapies are also largely a matter of social and cultural context. In a lot of cases it has been seen that they prove even more effective than a normal medicine that is recommended by the doctor in your prescription.
Most of the time, alternative medicine goes with a religious or spiritual element, that is it is linked with god and a lot of belief at the same time. That is it is helpful in creating a lot of self awareness as well. Meditation has a direct connective with god as it connects us with an unknown spiritual power. In India, people say “OM” while doing yoga and meditation and “OM” stands for god!
Similarly Chinese medicine has its own relevance. Alternative medicine is an alternative practice method with conventional treatment practices. But it does not mean that while making use of alternative medicine, you should altogether leave the conventional medicine that is recommended to you by your doctor! No, why should you do that? In fact a proper prescription from the doctor is a must. You can also utilize both both alternative and conventional methods at the same time as it all depends not only on a person's illness but on his personal beliefs as well.
But these days the awareness towards alternative medicines have increased day by day. The fact that a lot of doctors are currently utilizing alternative health techniques with conventional practices as well.
