We all love our pet dogs and cats, they are like an extended family. One of the main worries that most pet owners face is when their beloved pets fall sick. Recent studies indicate that almost every dog and cat suffers from some or other form allergies just like people do. One of the common factors for allergies in most dogs and cats are airborne particles like pollen, mold, mildew, dust feathers and wool. Itching and scratching are some of the common symptoms that indicate allergies in pets. Following are some of the home made remedies that will help you keep allergies under control:
  • Water – If you notice your pet scratching give him a cool-water soak for five to ten minutes. Make sure that the water is cool. As warm water aggravates the itch.
  • Colloidal oatmeal – It is another factor that can help relieve itching. Just add colloidal oatmeal to the bathwater can help relieve the itching.
  • Supplements - Try giving your pet a fatty acid supplement. The supplements are natural and come in capsules. They are available from vets and some pet stores.
  • Indoors – If your pet is allergic towards air pollutants make sure to keep him inside especially during early morning and evenings – When the air pollutants are high. So, the next time you take you dog for a walk please check your local paper for weather listings and you will see a reading for pollen and mold count.
  • Get rid of dust catchers – Some of the common dust catchers found in most homes are curtains, carpets and thick upholstery. If you're pet is allergic towards dust particles make sure to keep them off your pet limits.
  • Clean frequently – Another important factor that help reduce dust particles at homes is frequent cleaning. Keep your homes free from dust and dirt. Vacuuming, frequent checking of air conditioner/furnace filters and washing pet's bedding are some of the basic steps that will help your home free from dust.
These steps will help your pets remain away from pollutants. Consult a pet doctor in case your pet is still scratching and itching a lot.
