Recently, I came across this wonderful novel by Richard Steinberg. The title of the novel is “The Gemini Man.” The tag line printed on the cover of the novel was "He was trained to be our deadliest weapon. Now he's our worst nightmare...." Though, I expected more action from the novel. Nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. Although, it is the first novel of Steinberg's I've read, but I'm sure to read this novel again. The best part that I liked in this novel were its description about the main character and the premise. However, like other readers would have pointed out, even I would have enjoyed reading more about the main character about his thinking and the main motive behind his actions. But, I think the author wanted us to fill in those gaps ourselves, after all, the novel was more psychological based than action oriented.
Though, I completely enjoyed reading this book but there was one thing that bothered me. It was the fact that Steinberg, used twice in the text, the old myth about driving nose bones up into the brain. Once he suggested this myth, and the other time he used this text when a person was killed. Since, this was a myth, I wished he could have used this text in a different format.
However, I must add here that Steinberg have been credited, by the martial art TV show Human Weapon. In one of the last episode of the series said that “ if a martial art documentary can't even get it right I won't fault an author too much.”
Personally, I'd would prefer to read the sequel to this novel. As, I'm curious to know where Newman goes next and get a deeper understanding of his thoughts. I find this novel to have more potential to add more depth to this story. This novel has potentiality to add more psychology and more action. The bottom line is that I enjoyed the novel thoroughly.
