It is very important for kids to eat nutritious food. All the parents realize that nutrition for their child is important, but they don't know how to teach the child about making better food choices. So, here are some suggestions that will help educate your child about nutrition and how it is related to his overall health.
More about Nutrition
Be clear that you can't teach what you don't know yourself. Therefore, you have to find a quality resource from some qualified and experienced professional who can tell you about using nutrition and fitness that will help your family to live a healthy and happy life.
Always start with a preferred food list
In the beginning, make a list of the foods that your child likes. After this sort out the foods that are better for the kid, and food that is not so good. Paste the list on the refrigerator or any prominent part of the kitchen as a reminder to you and ask your child to choose more of the better and less of the not so healthy food from the list.
Tell your child about the consequences of poor nutrition in age appropriate terms
Explain the benefits of nutrition in a language that a child can relate to and understand. You can tell the kid that obesity leads to heart disease, diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure and many other diseases that won't mean much to them today. Tell him that he will feel better about himself, climb stairs, play longer, better and harder, only if he is fit and free from diseases.
Start to read labels together
It is not necessary that your kid has to understand all the information given on the label, but make it a habit that he look at every label, compare calories and think about nutrition before buying a food item.
