Running a business is not at all an easy thing. You need to put in lot of hard work and efforts to keep it going on and make money. Everyone including a businessman don't wish to pay more money to the government in form of tax. So, here are some taxes that you can pay as a business owner, which gets deducted at the end of the year in the form of your business expense:

Real estate taxes for improvements

This is actually a deduction meant for improvements, which is ordered by the city or state for public welfare. For example, if the government levies a tax for improving the area where your office is located, then you can deduct the certain amount of the tax that was given for the cause as a business expense. You should always remember that tax is deducted in the year of payment. Using accrual method or paying of taxes before they are levies is a tricky thing and you should not do it without consulting a tax professional.

State and local income taxes

All the local and state governments levy taxes on different corporations and partnerships, and these taxes can also be deducted as business expense in the payment year. But one can not deduct the federal taxes. Therefore, you can deduct the same taxes in your individual file only when you itemize the tax form.

Foreign income taxes

If you pay taxes for your business in a foreign country, then it can be deducted as a business expense. In US, individuals can claim same amount to be deducted from their income as it is not taxable by the government.

Unemployment taxes

If you are an employer, and own a business, in such cases you might be giving unemployment payments to the state fund on the behalf of your employee and business. All these payments can also be counted as a part of your business expense.

Excise taxes

The tax is paid to the government on all the commodities you sell, manufacture or use. This will include environment tax, luxury car tax, fuel tax, manufacturer's tax and communication tax. You can claim all these taxes as a part of your business expense.

Sales taxes

Everytime you pay for a service or buy an equipment for your business, you pay sales tax. This tax is counted as a business expense.

Self employment taxes

If you own a business, you will be assessed to self employment tax. In this case, you can deduct half of that tax as your business expense.
