There are many obvious answers to what sports and physical recreation means. If you look around any weekend, you will see different teams playing games like soccer, baseball and many others. There are some games like badminton, table tennis and tennis that have fewer competitors. Along with this, there are an increasing number of games involving single competitor like golf, fishing and surfing.

All these games have something common. When we talk about basketball, tennis or even golf, each involves some or other form of physical exertion. Therefore, something that takes some form of physical activity is an answer to sports and physical recreation.

Sports is an athletic activity that requires a competitor to display his skills and physical prowess. Physical directly relates to the body and strenuous activity involved. Some people argue that golf is not a physical activity, but it needs lot of power to hit a ball. You might require to put in lot of efforts to catch a large fish. So all these games whether played at individual level or with teams, somewhere demand physical efforts.

There have always been arguments about what is a sport and what is a game? For example, is darts a sport or a game. The players who participate in darts consider it more than a game, while other consider it to be a sport. If we consider recreation to be relaxing, then is it possible for a sport to be a recreation when some or other type of competition is involved in it, that destroys the point of relaxation.

So, the appropriate answer to this is that any activity that is done in a spare type by an individual, involves some form of physical activity.
