Don't get me wrong, I'm a Catholic and very proud to be. Although, I don't have the deepest understanding of many religions, but I would like to clear certain myths that surround the Catholic religion.
- Statues – Unlike many other religions, the religion of catholic do not encourage worshiping statues. You may be wondering if we (catholics) do not worship idols then why do we have them in the church. It is simple, in the olden days there were not many printing press as well as bibles were quite expensive. Hence, catholics used these statues to teach their children about the religion. If you get an opportunity to visit any old church you'll find every statues have one of the passages from the bible. This made teaching very easy.
- Worship Mary – Many believe that catholics worship Mary and the Saints, which is so false. Surely, we do pray to Mary and the Saints but only in the sense to pray for us. In simple words, just like we ask our parent and friends to pray for us, we ask Mary and saints to pray for us as well. Even in the commandments written in the bible, it clearly says to honor thy father and thy mother. Since, Mary is our mother we are supposed to honor her as well.
- Better than all – The Bible clearly mentions to be humble. No where in the bible you'll find it saying that catholic is better than all. This is an attitude that comes from human beings, not the catholic church.
These are just some of the common myths about the religion of catholics.
