The world if e-commerce is entirely different from other business ventures. That is why it is said that

the web site design for an e-commerce site as compared to a normal web design is entirely different. Here are some of the noted differences:
  • As far as a normal website is concerned, it is geared up with basic structure in order to provide relevant information to its clients. That is why it is decked up with a variety of text blocks, photos, animations and the like. The website is well organized, some times it can be funky as well. Their main aim is to provide comprehensive information about the topic to its visitor. Some have advertisements, some have links to other sites, but e-commerce site is basically geared up with information on its products and services. The design is not funky at all as it has to give a professional feeling.
  • An e-commerce site also has shopping carts, secure check outs, shipping and/or delivery information, in most of the cases it also has live help or 24/7 call center, credit card processing, fraud protection, and other elements. But usually we don't see them in regular websites.
  • Let me give you an example: the e-commerce website should be designed as a store because of the fact that it has to offer products for sale. At the same time, the content that is used in the website should be persuasive and help viewers make the decision so that they can purchase products from your site!
  • E-commerce sites are also arrayed with exclusive offers, have additional information on the products, common and suggested uses, at the same time it is decked up with gift section (not in all cases) , and any other information that will help sell the product.
  • E-commerce site should also have a testimonial page (it is a necessity). But it is not at all important in case of a normal website. An e-commerce page should a FAQ page as well
