The full form of the abbreviated term IPS stands at Intrusion Prevention System. Intrusion essentially means spotting loopholes in the entire network and taking an advantage of the same. One can say that intrusion is an inappropriate, incorrect or anomalous activity that is taking place on host-based or network-based systems. One can perform malicious activities, such as denial of service attacks, port-scans and crack into computer by monitoring network traffic. The various forms are as follows:

They are generally someone from outside who are trying to gain information. There have also been cases when a disgruntled employee on the inside is attempting to cause a havoc.
